Mercedes-Benz owner’s door mishap ends in car crash

In a viral video that has the internet in stitches, an elderly lady finds herself caught in a comical car crash conundrum, a gate on one side and an eager Mercedes-Benz on the other.

It’s a classic case of “rock and a hard place,” with a twist of slapstick humour! As fate would have it, the car’s door gets wedged onto the adjacent fence, and chaos ensues.

In a mere 45 seconds, this courageous lady manages to turn her car into a one-woman wrecking crew, causing a domino effect on not one but two innocent parked cars on the other side of the road. Who knew closing a door could be such an extreme sport? Upon closer inspection of the video, it seems our adventurous driver attempted a daring reverse manoeuvre to free the stubborn door. Alas, a slight misstep turned her well-intentioned act into a comedy of errors.

The end result? A door that would make a Salvador Dalí painting proud. Perhaps this incident is a sign that cars with suicide doors deserve a second look—after all, they’d be immune to this kind of shenanigan!

So, folks, remember this cautionary tale, closing a door might not be as easy as you think. It requires grace, precision, and a knack for avoiding unintentional demolition derbies. Stay safe out there and always double-check your surroundings before attempting any daredevil door-closing manoeuvres. Harrowing Killarney bike accident results in red flag – riders ok!

Power series spectators at Killarney were witness to several crashes throughout the event, but one of the most notable spills of the day happened during the first few turns of the Bridgestone STC race.

A dramatic incident unfolded during Round 5 of the Power Series on Saturday, May 27, as a crash involving eight riders brought the Bridgestone STC 650/SSP300 race to a sudden halt. This unfortunate event resulted in the cancellation of Race 1 across all three motorcycle categories, adding an unexpected twist to the day’s Superbike action.

The race began with Nicholas Hutchings (HSC SV650) taking an early lead, closely followed by Ryan Coetzee (Project Sixty SA ER6), Jamie Hall (MGA Racing ER650), Franco Flach (Kawasaki ER6), and Zante Otto (Missile Motorcycles SV650).

However, on lap three, Hutchings’ HSC superbike experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure. A con-rod in his bike broke, causing oil to spill onto his rear tire and the track surface just as he approached Quarry Corner of Killarney.

In a split second, Hutchings lost control of his bike, resulting in a chain reaction that involved the following seven riders. The severity of the incident prompted race officials to immediately display the red flags, signalling the suspension of the race. With a significant portion of the field affected by the crash, the decision was made to cancel Race 1 in all motorcycle categories. This allowed ample time for track marshals to recover the damaged motorcycles and thoroughly clean the track.

Despite the alarming spectacle witnessed by both on-site spectators and those watching the live stream, the injuries sustained by the riders were relatively minor.

Zante Otto suffered a fractured ankle, while Franco Flach sustained a broken collarbone. The unexpected crash served as a reminder of the risks involved in high-speed racing. However, the courage and determination exhibited by the injured riders, along with the swift response from the race officials and marshals, ensured that safety remained a top priority.

Local MotoGP icon Brad Binder is at it again with his two-wheeler, this time sporting a Checkers Sixty60 parcel holder positioned behind him. Watch what he gets up to below.

The fastest South African on two wheels has taken up a new career when he isn’t challenging for MotoGP wins around the world. No stranger to the world of public relations, Binder has now taken a road legal “33” badged Red Bull KTM taking to the streets of South Africa to deliver groceries to a lucky customer. Before this can all happen, John Dladla – a Checkers Sixty60 instructor – has to show Binder the ropes. Making things slightly more challenging in this local spectacle; unrelenting rain, but none of it can dampen the feel-good spirit of the video.

This isn’t Binder’s first outing with Checkers. The MotoGP victor previously partnered with the outlet to deliver a dream to a hopeful rider earlier on in the year. The 27-year-old South African competitor racing with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team has earned two wins in the top flight of two-wheeled racing over his 4-year career competing against the best of the best. The first at the 2020 Czech Republic Motorcycle Grand Prix and the next the following year at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

With the 2023 season a third completed, Binder has scored a mixed bag of results with a season-best of second in Spain. Despite this, he is currently in third place for the MotoGP championship standings with 81 points.Italians Francesco Bagnaia and Marco Bezzecchi in their Ducatis, leading with 94 and 93 points respectively.

Local E36 BMW M3 ploughs into two spectators after failed burnout

A pristine-looking BMW dolphin M3 has gotten away relatively unscathed after a near miss over the weekend. The two spectators on the other hand were not so lucky, colliding with the E36 as it mounted the pavement. Watch below.

Fortunately, both of the afflicted were quick to get back onto their own two feet and walk off the close call but the clean-looking E36 BMW may have some mechanical and front-end cosmetic damage following the ordeal. Considering it ramped a pavement, there is a high possibility damage has been done to the suspension components and underworkings of the drivetrain. As for the rims, some may need to go in for a refurbishment and balancing to rectify any bent lips.

The embedded video posted on Facebook by Neeresh Harrichand has since gone viral and shows a passenger in the E36 BMW M3 hanging out of the window as the S50 motor screamed towards the rev limiter while the rear wheels broke traction, theatrically creating some smoke behind Dakar Yellow model. With too much opposite lock, the M3 started to gain momentum and sets a trajectory for the centre island on the road where the two spectators are standing. All of this, captured in slow-motion.

This is an important lesson to spectators that frequent breakfast runs and car meets – always be cognisant of your surroundings with moving cars present, particularly when driver skill is unknown. Watch the incident below.
